Chairman PEC

Engr. Jawed Salim Qureshi, Chairman PEC

Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), is consistently working to promote growth in socio-economic fields through the development of engineering profession in totality. In October 2019, PEC took initiative to contribute and add value to the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Landscape of Pakistan. A creative hub for innovators and engineers was conceptualized with the objective to develop innovative engineering products and solutions, and to instill entrepreneurial skills in young engineers.

Tragically, COVID-19 Pandemic became the most significant crisis of 2020, it not only challenged the healthcare systems but also halted the global economic activity. During the pandemic, PEC has been assigned the lead role by Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), to design and develop the innovative engineering and scientific products/solutions to encounter the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic specifically to cater the demand of low-cost Ventilators.

PEC promptly took this responsibility and transformed itself into a coordination hub to facilitate all the innovators where they were able to register their product designs. It provided all the support required during design evaluation, development, inspection, testing, manufacturing and regulatory approvals. Hence, the calamity was converted into opportunity.

The opportunity to indigenously design, develop, and manufacture electromedical devices in Pakistan and promote it globally. The Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), and the Ministry of Health Services, Regulation, and Coordination (NHSRC) took the initiative to operationalize the framework of developing electro-medical devices in Pakistan to be implemented through PEC. This step will open the ways forward for the innovators to invent multiple EM Equipment in Pakistani engineering universities and change the culture of “degree to get Govt. job” to “degree for innovative products”.

Hence, I am glad to share with you the establishment of Pakistan Innovation and Testing Center (PITC) that would continue to work with a vision to serve as a nucleus of creativity, innovation, incubation, product development, testing, and commercialization of engineering goods from all industrial sectors that would be proudly labelled and promoted as “Made of Pakistan” world-wide. The center will intensely focus on bridging the gap between academia and industry and will synergies the activities to accelerate the product development process.

PEC will not only work as a regulatory body but would also act as a catalyst in the Start-up Eco-system. With deep commitment, hard work and determination we would strive to implement this framework. In parallel, to inspire and nurture the young innovative minds for entrepreneurship, Pakistan Youth Innovation Club (PYIC) has also been launched under PITC. The club will arrange multiple activities including trainings, adventure trips, and learning workshops for the members.
